CAME TO LIFE

In 2018, a small team of passionate Pakistanis living in Sydney noticed something missing — a media platform that truly understood them. Not just Urdu content broadcast from overseas, but stories told from within the diaspora, for the diaspora.

What began as a YouTube channel with a phone camera and borrowed microphone has grown into Australia's most trusted South Asian media platform — with tens of thousands of subscribers, original programming, and a professional events arm serving communities across the country.

Our name says it all. Pehchan — meaning identity, recognition, sense of self. Because we believe every immigrant's story deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

From a living-room camera setup to Australia's leading South Asian media platform.

2018

🎬 The Beginning

PehchanTV launches as a YouTube channel from Sydney. First video published on Pakistani community life in Australia. Equipment: one smartphone, one borrowed tripod.

2019

📈 First 1,000 Subscribers

Hit our first milestone. Began producing weekly content on immigration news, cultural stories, and community interviews.

2020

🌐 COVID Community Service

During lockdowns, PehchanTV became a lifeline — daily Urdu-language updates, mental health resources, and support information for isolated immigrants.

2021

🎪 First Live Event

Organised and live-streamed our first community Eid event in Sydney — 300+ attendees. The seed of our Events Management division.

2022

🏢 Events Division Launched

Officially launched PehchanTV Events as a standalone service for cultural festivals, corporate events, and community galas.

2023

🏆 10K & Awards

Crossed 10,000 subscribers. Recognised at the NSW Multicultural Media Awards. Expanded to Melbourne and Brisbane.

2024

🚀 50,000+ Going National

Surpassed 50,000 subscribers. Launched Hindi and Bangla content. 10+ major events across 4 cities. Full production team onboarded.

2026

Shafaq Jaffery

Founder & CEO

President of the Aus-Pak Women Association (APWA) and a dedicated advocate for survivors of domestic violence. She founded APWA Safe Heaven, a shelter supporting women in rebuilding their lives with safety, dignity, and independence. She is also the author of Circle of Sorrow, a powerful collection of survivor stories that reflects her commitment to women’s empowerment and resilience.
